After reading this thread, I poked around on some fares for an upcoming itinerary. The Flex fare was nearly double the Tango fare (transcon, 1 stop, AC mainline).

Background:

Two of us will be flying (both E35K) and have enough e-ups for one way on the itin. This requires that we book into Flex and play aerolotto; we would essentially pay for two Flex fares for the price of four Tango fares.

A hypothetical option that now comes to mind... since these flights are on 3x3 configured aircraft, why not just pay for three Tango fares for the two of us? We wouldn't be able to upgrade - unlikely to clear anyway - but we'd have way more space and it would be cheaper than two Flex fares.

Of course, we'd have to be seated together to make this work, thus would have to pay for advance seat selection. The T&C on AC.com indicates that the seat selection fee is per passenger (not per seat). Heck, we could pop for full priced preferred seating - first access the F&B cart - and it would still be cheaper than two Flex fares in regular seats.

1) Does anyone have experience with this?

2) Is this difference in pricing sustainable?
