I can only pass on my own experience that I've never been asked to show a credit card when I buy tickets for other people. I did once get asked to show my credit card at checkin when I was the person travelling, not sure why on that occasion out of a hundred flights a year but perhaps it's random. But when I book for someone else, they've never had any problem travelling without my credit card.
