Yes - because not all boarding passes will show *G status, and the presence of the logo on the card expedites the process.
UA lounge in LHR would not even accept verification from AC of my status (the AC staff called as I wanted a shower and their *1* shower had an hour wait). A bit silly I think. There should be a *A system to verify status since the BPs can obviously read it across partners.
They ended up taking Priority Pass, thanks AMEX Plat :P
