My comments were more about booking on a computer, rather than real-time information or mobile. No reason why you shouldn't use the best for each!
Unless you have some quite advanced or special requirements, I find loco2 to be very quick and easy and clear to book with. I tend to switch over to capitaine train when I want to do something involving a Carte Voyageur card or discount. Once you have signed up, booking is made easy by them having all your details saved, but I'm still not sure why they require you to sign up first.
As for knowing where you train is, maybe we want a new sticky thread with a wiki for "my train isn't here, how do I found it where it is" across each European country?
