Bad luck you got a 2.0 version.
US models tend to be the 5 cylinder 2.5. I had one (a 2012 model, no less), last month when I was in SoCal. Remembering how impressed I had been with the previous gen car, which was definitely the pick of the Group C rental machines, my expectations were high. But this is the specially cheapened for American buyers version of the Jetta, and it shows. The interior just did not feel up to VW standards, and the thing did not drive that well - blame the fixed beam rear axle.
I know that VW have gradually been rectifying all the cheapness features, so a 2014/15 model, esp with the TFSi engine would perhaps be the pick of the Group again, but on my experience, it's not the shoe-in that it was 3 or 4 years ago.
(I will be publishing my detailed review on
http://themotor.net in due course, there's a long backlog of tests to finish and put up there!).
