I have plenty of miles for 2 people to visit Sri Lanka on award tix. I am wanting to go in early 2016 for a vacation so I want to start researching now the best way to get there. I'd like to travel in F on CX, but I don't know if TPAC routings are allowed for this award. Origination city is Kansas City (MCI)

Because stopovers are not allowed, would it make sense to go all the way there or all the way back in one journey, even thought it is horrendously long, and buy a one way from CMB-HKG (or vice versa) to fit in a stopover in Hong Kong? I see the CX flight LAX-HKG-CMB as an example has an all day layover in Hong Kong. I cannot use a morning flight as I cannot get to the west coast from KC by the time the morning flights leave. Being in KC any AA flights I take to either LAX or SFO have to go through either ORD or DFW and can't get me there until evening.

What other oneworld partners fly to CMB with a good F or J product? Which routing is allowed and would have the shortest travel time? I'm open to creative routings that I may not have thought of.
