Thanks guys. Thats what I love about FT to very helpful responses that put both sides of the debate on the table!

I was thinking of the Shearton having realised there isn't really anywhere at Schiphol thats on a par with, say, the Sofitel at t5 LHR.

Just a couple of extra questions:

1. How long to get from Schiphol to centre of town and whats the best method (IIRC last time I took the train but this was about 10 years ago);
2. Any restaurant recommendations.
