That doesn't mean they won't disable it:

Staples has had readers with built-in contactless, which was always disabled until now.

Target has readers with built-in contactless, which is disabled.

As do Barnes and Noble, Best Buy, ULTA (they used to have it enabled), Old Navy, and many, many more.

More contactless readers in the US are disabled than are enabled. Not quite to the extent of disabled contact chip readers, but close. Merchants in the US purchase triple-entry readers, but set them to swipe-only mode.
