I've spoken with a woman at the FS head office in Toronto, and inquired about the management process of the hotels, as I was sad to see the management of the Terre Blanche property go (event though I had never stayed there). Needless to say she wasn't willing (or able) to say too much about it, but did mention, that some of their contracts, or at least the newer ones, stretch as long as 25-30 years on some properties. It seemed by her tone and her facial expressions that, at least in the Provence situation, that the owner was just so difficult to work with and was causing so many headaches that it simply wasn't worth the bad relationship and problems to force him to stay in the contract. She said they have a team working 365 days a year that's constantly flying around the world and speaking with investors/property owners to find the perfect locations. While some locations may simply not end up being profitable, FS does not take on the management of a property lightly. Like NYBanker said, it would have to be extreme circumstances for them to leave.
