When I went on my app later on my way to the airport it showed me on the standby list AND the upgrade list. I double checked with the agent since she was there early and she said I was on the upgrade list, but they wouldn't clear until they began boarding.
I chilled at the club, went back and cleared just as they were announcing pre-board and lining everyone up.
Check to see what your app shows, and I'd double check with the gate agent to be sure, you don't want to miss it due to a fluke or mis-information.
Good luck
First agent in your story did it halfway; second agent was guessing, or else lying to cover up ignorance. That happened to me my last trip. Called, got on standby list, couldn't see upgrade list - called again, agent said hang on a minute, OK check it now, and it was right.
I checked the app today somewhat after T-7 and saw it, but didn't see myself. I tweeted DeltaAssist and then a minute or two later I was on the list. Don't know if they did it or just saw it when they checked it, because they all they said was I see you on the list (and my position).
This is a V fare.
So. You need to see the standby/upgrade list, and you need to see your name on it. Anything else, it hasn't been done right. Don't listen to excuses. And if you get any, I would say HUCB to avoid wasting time.
