Difference is, the flu/cold doesn't have a 60%-70% mortality rate... and those other things like obesity, smoking etc are a cumulative effect over years and basically at the control of the person. The panic comes from the fact that if you get Ebola, you're likely to be dead in a month or two. Couple that with the disorganized/poor govt response.
