I have TSA Pre for free, I believe because of my United status (Premier Gold/1MM).

I like it, except that it is inconsistently implemented among airports. I.e., I sailed thru the line at PDX and SFO without removing shoes, jacket, etc.

But at JFK, I kept my shoes on and was asked to remove them. I actually noticed the signs and the other passengers removing their shoes, but kept mine on just in case it was in fact permitted. No. Although apparently, if I were 75 or over, I would be able to leave shoes on at JFK. Not there yet -- a ways to go before I hit that age!
