Is that detriment to others?

My reasoning is that I only earn 15,000 miles at most a year and sometimes I do not fly at all during the calendar year
Not sure exactly what you're asking, but for 3 years after living in Asia I credited my SQ (and other *A flights in Asia) to UA MP like you. I eventually quit just because I moved to Asia and didn't see myself going back to the US. I'm not a mileage expert but I was flying SQ enough I figured I'd credit there in pursuit of PPS Solitaire.

My gut says if you have to worry about not crediting something every 18 months (I'm reading into this: low frequent flier activity), you probably don't need to get too worried about which mileage program you're crediting to. Best to do the one most convenient, where you can reach someone to talk to on a customer services line (aka, not Asia Miles unless you're elite) and burn the miles successfully.
