As for China partners, as stimpy mentions, ST is by far the best of the three alliances in this respect.

I mostly fly Singapore/Hong Kong/Tokyo - Shanghai for work while I am in Asia, and while MU is a FB partner, it comes nowhere near close to what JL, NH, SQ and CX offer.
As for the Business Class seat issue, I am sick of playing roulette with AF/KL while I can travel worry-free with BA and SQ, just to name a few.
And the icing on the cake was the ridiculous prices for awards, specially in F.
Having said that, I really do like AF/KL though. But they come nowhere near close other FFPs when recognizing Top tier fliers.
