So what is the cross check thing that they do?
Hi,

These are the front and rear main cabin doors on the A319/A320/A321 as well as the other exit doors on the A321 where the doors are armed after pushback so that if the door is opened the slides will deploy with the cross check ensuring that the door on the other side is also armed.

On arrival the doors are disarmed so that when the doors are opened on stand the slide does not inflate inside the aircraft or up the jetty!

There is no cross check on the A319/320 overwing exits.

Regards
