Other than a hotel room (and transportation to hotel), there is no mandatory compensation for delays/cancellations due to mechanical issues. Nor is it mandatory that DL accommodate you on another airline. Unfortunately, once you take it upon yourself to seek your own transportation or hotel room, DL is unlikely to provide cash reimbursement. They will typically offer a voucher for future travel or miles in such cases.
