I've heard of this, but never experienced it myself. I've used priceline's "name your own price" for hotels quite a lot (20 or 30 times in the past 2 years) and never gotten that kind of treatment. Usually for me, a hotel room is just a clean bed to sleep in, so I don't really care much about the hotel as long as it's clean, safe, quiet, and convenient to where I want to go.

I'll take a look around for deals, thanks for all the input! Since it's not a holiday weekend in Canada, and November isn't exactly high season in Vancouver, I was really hoping to find some good deals, but haven't found anything spectacular yet.
