Tawaraya is my favorite in Kyoto. It is exquisite, but very traditional so you will not see the kind of "luxury" you see in many hotels. The kaiseki dinner served in your room is a must as are the massages given after dinner lying on your futon before falling into a delicious sleep, and waking up the next morning to the steaming hot water that has been put into your Japanese wooden tub unbeknownst to you while you were sleeping. This is a wonderful experience but some of the things we consider luxury on this forum are not part of the Japanese Ryokan experience is all! It is a different kind of luxury!
