It was originally due to be a 767 so maybe the aircraft wasn't available and they had to swap it for something bigger.
You have my sympathies! The 767 for ours looked chocka-block when I checked in last night so I guess there wouldn't be enough seats to stick everyone in WT/WTP on the 747.
