There was a dish called "tomatar prawns" from SIN (to SYD) in CW. The menu made no reference to it being hot, nor was there any "chilli symbols" you often see in Indian restaurants. I am not sure why I thought there would be such a symbol on CW, but that's what I had in mind, and therefore, I mistakenly thought the absence of such symbols indicated (?) that the dish wasn't hot.
I was completely wrong. It would have been really loved by vindaloo lovers but it was too hot for me (I am happy with madras but that's about my comfort limit). I had to "de-sauce" the prawns onto the rice in order to eat it, as it was so hot it was almost inedible. I pushed the 'contaminated' rice aside and it was all OK, and a tiny bit of sauce left on it actually gave the prawns a nice flavour.
However, this made me think, maybe it would be a good idea to give an indication of how hot the dish is on the menu?
They do have indicators as to what is considered "healthy eating" but, I cant recall seeing a "spicy/hot" indicator.
It would be a good idea to do this on a style similar to Indian restaurants though.
