I just finished reading the article. In a way it is depressing reading.

It posits hundreds of billions of dollars being spent on security,

thorough searches to go into a shopping mall,

tracking of individuals based upon extensive surveillance and

domestic spying coupled with high tech data mining and sensory equipment, among other things.

It discusses how flummoxed certain Israelis are when they come to the United States and see how lightly guarded everything is. The author says people become inured to the "security" and rapidly feel better with it than without.

One Israeli security expert is quoted as saying that they catch 90% of suicide bombers.

Their domestic spying apparat, the Shin Bet, is, according to the article, allowed to run virtually unfettered in their domestic spying work.

In one chilling part, the author details being grilled at the airport for 40 minutes in depth as to his visit to Israel, being asked to produce not just business cards but notes from his meetings.
