Man arrested for carrying a grenade travelling on false passport

According to a Venezuelan government official, the man arrested at London Gatwick airport for carrying a live hand grenade on a British Airways flight from Caracas was travelling with false Venezuelan documentation.

The director general of identification Alfredo Gil Romero has said that both the passport and identity card of Rahaman Alan Azil were both forgeries.

"We cannot be sure that the citizen that is currently in London is really a Venezuelan. His passport was not issued in the normal way."

The man's identity card states it was processed in 1990, but the identity number is for a different person and was processed in 1978.

Venezuelan security forces will now be working together with international agencies such as Interpol to discover the man's true identity.
