Even with the change to POI Funding transactions, My Citi charge from the 8th posted today as a purchase.
According to above on 10/8/2014 Serve have changed their MCC (I'd still insist that they were forced to change MCC to reflect the real nature of the business) from:
7278 - Buying/Shopping Services Clubs
to:
6540 – POI Funding Transactions (Excluding MasterCard MoneySend)
According to MasterCard: POI = point of interaction - The location where a transaction occurs (formerly point of sale or point of service).
The MCC 6540 might or might not be considered Cash Advance by the Card issuers depending on their own policies.
The Classic Cash Advance MCCs are considered:
6010 - Manual Cash Disburse
6011 - Automated Cash Disburse
The MCC 6540 - definitely will fall into a High Risk transaction and even if certain Card Issuers might not consider it as Cash Advance they might still decline the transaction authorization based on their Risk Engine and/or will decrease the available Cash Advance limit, to mitigate fraud risk.
