I just booked a ticket with Qatar using US Airways miles, and they inverted the first two letters in my first name.
ie. Jane Doe -> Ajne Doe. I couldn't get US to reissue the ticket without the chance of not having the space released back into their system. Qatar has yet to get back to me.
Should this be something I'm concerned about? I'm flying from Abu Dhabi -> Doha -> Ammam and back to Dubai.
Update:
- Qatar seems adamant that I get this ticket cancelled/reissued, and they were also certain that my flights wouldn't be available again should I do that. They also said, they can't change the name on my ticket since they didn't issue it.
- US Airways @ UK Office says that this inversion should be fine, that this occurs often, although they can't recall what happened with passengers who've flown on Qatar in the past have experienced. They put a note on my reservation. I also had them add my Qatar Privilege # onto my reservation, an account registered with my name spelled correctly.
Although my flight is months out, I am forced for other reasons, to have to make reservations for other things around these travel dates. My question is, what should I do in this situation? Will they let me fly, and if so, is this going to be a big battle in Abu Dhabi/Doha/Ammam ?
The name is ultimately WRONG. Irrespective of logically it seems to be a typo - but the mistake is made by US Airways and they are the one that must reissue the ticket, AND guarantee that the seat is still going to be there when you reissue. If not, it is they that has to answer for this error - made by the agent who booked you in the first place.
QR by all means CAN refuse you passage if you do not reissue the ticket. If it was a typo like JNAE instead of JANE, then it might be okay to let it slide. But your first letter of your name is entirely mixed up.
SO you have to get on US' back and get them to correct their mistake. Sure they might say its fine for QR to accept the error but ultimately you are flying on QR and not US Airways. QR makes the final decision - so its better safe than be stranded.
