The EK desk at DXB, or your point of origin should be able to do a check-in for your EK501 segment, thus saving you time at BOM.
Upon arrival at the BOM-CSIA T2, there is a transit / transfer section on the right, just before the Passport Control (for the arriving pax).
I am unsure, if you would need the visa if you use the transfer desk option. However, EK staff at DXB, would have a fairly good idea about it.

PS: there's a fair bit of walk from the A380-certified gates to the main hall of the terminal building. This will take a fair bit of time, both- while arriving and departing..!
