Can you actually get a discount by booking a hotel and flight together?

I've never tried using the "flight and hotel" package option on priceline (or similar) before, but I can't seem to get it to actually give me any discount over what I would get booking the flight and hotel separately. Does this actually work?

I'll caveat this by saying I have a specific flight I'd like to book, but I'm not picky about the hotel as long as it's in my price range and in a good location.

Details:
Flights: Nov 25, US 504, PHX-YVR. Nov 30, US 441, YVR-PHX. Prices have been just shy of $400 for this ticket over the past week.
Hotel: Anything in downtown YVR that's around $100/night.
