That is indeed what we ran into. It wasn't that big of a deal at LAX. It wasn't automatic, but once I asked the agent she spoke with a supervisor who knew of the issue and it was quickly corrected and we were given a lounge pass.
Outside the US it was a different story. DXB took about 10-15 minutes to get sorted out as it often took a few trips of the agent to a supervisor to sort out each time we flew through. In Maldives, it took much longer as I suspect they see AS partner awards very infrequently. All told, we were never denied, but it was a PIA to deal with in each location and made the otherwise superb EK experience a little less thrilling.
