First of all, you are not "all we have" to protect us. Don't flatter yourself! Passengers have demonstrated that they can protect themselves pretty well.
Second, don't even pretend that all the TSA employees march into work every morning thinking about how much they want to "protect" the sweet passengers that they encounter. The truth is much more complicated. Most TSA employees know perfectly well that the terrorist threat is quite remote. How many TSA employees have even SEEN a real terrorist, let alone caught one? The number ZERO springs to mind.
What many TSA employees really want to do is engage in class warfare against the generally more prosperous people who are unfortunate enough to have to fly and can be abused by TSA fascists. You don't like being called a fascist? Then get another job. And stop pretending that you are protecting me from extremely remote threats. I'm more likely to be struck by lightning, but nobody protects me from that!

I find it endlessly amusing to watch a non-TSA employee tell a TSA employee what "many" TSA employees think.
