Wait a year until you're legal. Get a credit card and a wad of cash to go with it. Have a solid connection to your home country, which will assure the immigration officer you're not going to work or overstay your visa. In the mean time, there's red tube to tide you over until you can meet the gal.

I've sent my daughter off on hairy planes going to another country, armed with nothing more than a purse around her neck with tickets and passport, and a backpack full of sugary stuff to get her in the right mood to wind up the stewardesses. And I, for one, would never give a credit card to any minor under any circumstances. Their brains are simply not calibrated for that kind of responsibility yet.
