You can repair a damaged Alu Topas case.

But you cannot repair a corner cracked Salsa case: You can only have an alu metal corner cap installed over the crack.

Just as light fragile items are hand-carried, I normally use the Salsa line of Rimowa products as hand-carry, and the alu products for checked luggage.
