I'm down.
Alaska claims a range of 3,383 statute miles for its 738s. SEA-HNL is 2,677; ANC-HNL is 2,777. Yet aircraft get diverted for tech stops. Scheduling routes at max range in still air & standard conditions doesn't work in reality - ask the United flyers about Gander diversions on winter west-bound 757s from Europe.
I'll point out that DL has 757s (configs with 4,700 mile range) in ANC every day and (still) a hub in NRT but doesn't fly ANC-NRT.
