Infant boarding passes from OLCI

After all my decades with UA, a new experience -- traveling with a lap infant, my first grandchild. (Before I get admiration for flying with a lap infant, I'll confess my daughter -- the Mom -- was long too). At the time I made the res, the infant's name was in the record (had to phone in), and after ticketing she correctly showed up as one of the pax, marked "lap." When it came time for OLCI, one of the routine questions asked (which I'd never had to pay attention to before) is "is anyone in your party an infant under age 2." I perhaps foolishly took this question at face value and answered the "yes" radio button. It then asked me for the name and birthdate of the infant, making me a little suspicious as this data was already in the original record. After OLCI, out popped FOUR boarding passes: me, daughter, another one marked
"Starman/Actual Infant First Name" and the fourth marked "Starman/Infant". Apparently I should have answered "no" to the question "is anyone in the party a lap infant under 2" to avoid double boarding passes. Does that question actually mean "Although there is an infant in your party, answer 'no' if you've already told us about the infant"?? Is the expectation actually that most pax do not reveal the infant at all until checkin, and that's why they ask then?
