For what it's worth

I'm also right at 6' and my boyfriend is 6'7".

We've traveled quite a bit, most recently JFK - ANC via SEA.

On the JFK SEA we had the exit row, lots of leg room but the arm rests don't move and take up a little bit of the standard width.

On SEA to ANC we had EC seating

We have some long haul flights coming up to Asia and Dubai, I asked my bf which seat he prefered since it was all fresh in his mind and all.

He stated he likes the EC seats, he can't stretch his legs out like in the Exit row, but he foudn the actual seats more comfortable both in the slightly more recline, padding and it being a little bit wider. He's not overly wide, he fits fine in the exit row, although it be a snug fit

So we'll be traveling EC as long as it's not a bulkhead, so he (and I) can stretch our legs out under the seat in front of us. I have status so I get these seats at no charge.

Personaly I think $99 for EC from DTW to SFO is way too much money, I'd go with an aisle seat so you can stretch your legs more, and get up more if you like.

You can also wait day of and if an exit row is open, I think you can get that at no charge.
