The mobile app doesn't show GGL - just Gold. I do believe that the lounge agents could find out if they're trained - I think they can check your CIV and therefore if it's 97 or above they should let you take 2 guests - but don't forget that this only works in BA owned lounges..

Correct. Apart from the actual card, there is nothing to differentiate between gold and GGL physically or visually; so it is useful to show the card. However, all Premium Team staff members (blue badges) know the easiest way to verify GGL status is by checking the CIV score.
There is no Premium team in T1/T3 and staff there are very new so that could explain the earlier comments.
