I submitted a request to MPC based on the above, attached the UA boarding pass and other things that the AA check-in agent at EWR gave me, as well as the original AA E-Ticket. CX MPC replied on September 26, agreeing to credit my MPC account with the equivalent miles for the cancelled flight.

Did you get Club Miles / Sectors as well or only Asia Miles?
