Heathrow flight connections with BA on 2 separate bookings
Hello Flyertalkers,
I have a question regarding British Airways' attitude to missed connections with different bookings. I haven’t been able to find a thread which can answer this definitively.
I’m currently looking at flights to Helsinki for a city break trip next summer. I have 2 options if I book BA flights (which I would prefer).
1. I have searched on BA.com using the direct search (i.e. VIE-HEL), which quotes €418 for a VIE-LHR-HEL and return – on the same booking.
2. Or, I can make a booking with an agent for the return VIE-LHR journey and then another booking for the return LHR-HEL journey, with the cheapest price that I’ve found for the 2 bookings coming in at around €205.
The thing is, with the second option I am not sure if BA would rebook me on a later flight if I missed the connection, as I would have 2 separate bookings (not booked directly with BA). The shortest connection time would be about 2 hours 35 minutes. I will have BA Gold status at the time of travelling, if that changes anything!
Also, I’d be interested to know if the situation would be the same with a BA booking connecting with an Iberia booking (i.e. HEL-LHR with BA, connecting to LHR-MAD with Iberia).
Could someone enlighten me? Or if anybody has had any bad experiences with this I’d be grateful for information.
Thanks in advance for replies.
