Having maids clean your room during your stay is expected as part of checking into the room. I don't expect someone to carry my luggage for me, nor bring me food as part of my nightly stay. Those are extra services I requested for which I tip if I am happy with the experience.

I didn't request the maids and actually I don't even want them in my room unless I am staying two weeks, during the weekend while I am doing laundry.

For what it is worth I don't tip the front desk agent for checking me in, I don't tip the person serving continental breakfast at the Hampton and I don't tip the people outside cutting the grass and shoving snow either.

What a strange thread, why didn't you just come out and post "Why don't you tip maids if you'll tip someone else?" Your attempt at educating anyone here appears to be a fail.

Do you personally know a maid? Is that the problem?
