I have booked a return flight for me a my family (2 adults and 2 children) from LAX to JFK in late December. Now I would like to cancel that but unfortunately I bought non-refundable tickets.

Two questions before I contact United about it:
1. I am going on a business trip to New York in early December. Do you think United would agree to let me "change" the booking for my whole family to a one-person First Class ticket three weeks earlier? The price is about the same.
2. I just became a United Premier Platinum member. Does that give me more flexibility in this situation?
