A friend of mine had $3,000 worth of jewelry stolen from her Carry-on by TSA, searching her bag out of her sight. The story souned weird, since I didn't think they searched carry-ons out of your sight -- she noticed the loss when she got home. I don't know if she left out some key facts or it was stolen prior to getting to the airport, she says no way, and she's been credible in general. I'm kind of shocked she travelled with Jewelry worth that much, but that's irrelevant. She is filing some kind of claim form.

I think strong concerns about theft from unlocked baggage are very reasonable, and avoiding carrying valueable items is seriously annoying. But requirements to leave them unlocked seem reasonable as well, in light of epidemic muslim terrorism.

I'm not sure about the complaints regarding weight and number of bags, for the most part they are just enforcing the limits that have existed for decades right? In some cases enforcing the limits is especially sensible, because to certain destinations more and more passengers on the flight will carry the max or more. And if airlines must look for more revenue, this seems like one of the most reasonable places to get it -- enforcing the limits that always existed, or charging those few who get a valueable service by transporting such a great amount. Far more reasonable than same-day standby fees anyway.

Just one perspective. By the way, if anyone doesn't know, the airlines will never reimburse you even a penny for lost camera equipment, electronic/computer items, or jewelry in checked luggage.
