"Don't Lock Your Bags after Jan 1" may cause more thefts in bags

Sure that's what they say. Don't lock your bags because we want to get to them just in case... and we're going to provide plastic twist ties for you to 'lock' your suitcases.

I have a problem with that. We lock our suitcases for a reason. If the hundred thousand $$ machines can't detect anything suspicious, don't you think it's time to get better machines? European airports have some of the best machineries around, and they certainly don't go into this type of paranoia.

What worries me is not the unlocked suitcase within the USA but rather having no access to the unlocked suitcase until we reach our final destination .... in europe, asia, etc. Once news spreads around that all suitcases coming from USA are unlocked, don't you think thieves around the world's airport are going to have a field day?

TSA to people: Don't pack anything valuable in suitcase.

Airlines to people: (Specifically AA/NW, others soon to follow) Don't pack anything above 50lbs or be charged extra. You're only allowed 2 pieces, anything extra will be charged extra.

People to airlines: We're taking the boat!
