Scanner could end barefoot flight checks

http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/ptech/1...eut/index.html

"JERUSALEM, Israel (Reuters) -- An Israeli firm has developed a step-up scanner designed to spare travellers the nuisance of having their shoes removed and checked for hidden explosives at airports.

The sole-searching "Safeshoe" also detects metal items which could be used as a hijacking weapon, said Avi Kostalitz of Ido Security on Wednesday. The product is in final trials and due to be marketed by early 2003 at some $10,000 a unit, he added."

Does this mean we might be able to lay off some of these shoe fetishists??? At 10k a pop, we'd definitely be getting better value for the $10 that is extorted from each flyer + the taxes from each taxpayer...
