It seems to be one of those "intermittent rewards" / surprise things. Not a formulaic benefit. But, if you're on the cusp in terms of moving from one tier to the next they might look at your other Karma-type activity.
I am on track to stay at 9 different Kimptons this year with my current plans. I might be able to get to 10 (for the two free nights), but if not, I wonder if they'd look at Karma and bump me up? Not something to be counted on, but maybe a possibility.
