Had a recent audit and there were two instances where I was booked into a hotel in one city for a week and during that week i needed to go to another city for a short one night meeting. Initially got credit for the week long stay and the one night but during the audit they removed the one night stay. Had an email discussion (since you can't physically talk to the auditor) and the auditor confirms it is against the T&C. For me this means I will just stay with another chain when this comes up again in the future.
And this silliness is why I always book a different hotel chain for the "away" night when such a case comes up for me rather than giving Starwood that business. It is counterproductive for Starwood to drive away this type of business but it is their program and their rules. They just get to lose some business that I'd otherwise happily give them.
