Yes, they do give things away all the time. But if they do so in such a clumsy manner, then they can't be surprised if someone who paid asks for a refund.

I'm not suggesting they should. I realize they do put people in E+ for free all the time. But if they make an announcement that E+ is now free, why shouldn't someone who paid not be given a refund if they request it?
