Well, they actually don't check bags thru on OW flights either unless all part of same PNR. HAD LONG DISCUSSIONS WITH AA about this on my last trip to Asia that involved PHL-DFW-HKG in paid J followed by HKG-TAO in Y on award tix booked thru AA with AA miles.

Not the end of the world mind you, but the policies are a bit convoluted for an experienced AA/OW flyer, can't imagine what it's like for a first timer.

Amen, and doubly when they learn this at the check-in counter.

I've got separate AAticket to / from DFW to my QF itinerary to Godzone and am doubly pleased I'm only taking my soft RedOxx bag!
