Smile Amex 2-4-1 booking + (non-BA) connection

Long-time lurker, first time poster!

I have searched through the forums and can’t find a definitive answer to this, so any input would be much appreciated…

I have tracked down reward availability to book a LHR – ICN return in F using the Amex 2-4-1 voucher.

The catch is that upon arriving in ICN, and for the outbound leg only, we need to make an onwards connection onto an internal flight operated by Korean Air.

Clearly this sector won’t come under the 2-4-1 voucher as it is operated by a different airline entirely, but do you think BA might be able to combine it onto the same ticket / itinerary so that we can check the bags all the way through in London (and have an increased degree of protection in case anything goes wrong?)

I suppose my questions are:
  • Can 2-4-1 Amex voucher bookings be combined on the same ticket/itinerary with connecting flights which are not BA operated, but which are booked by the BA agent and paid for by cash?
.
  • And if so, how would this affect the flexibility of the overall booking? Understand that 2-4-1 voucher bookings can be changed/cancelled (for small fee for <Gold) but the KAL connection would no doubt be governed by a different set of flexibility conditions.
.
  • Assuming this is possible, would it have to be done at the time of booking (i.e. at time of 2-4-1 voucher redemption) or could the connection be tacked on to the same itinerary at a later date?
.
  • Finally, if the above is not possible, do you suppose the F check in agent at LHR would be prepared to check the bags all the way through to the final destination upon presentation of the onwards KAL boarding pass?

I would try calling BA for answers but as I have lapsed to a lowly Bronze it always seems to take 40min+ to get through on the phone, and having spent a lot of time lurking on this forum I'm always impressed by the responses.

Thanks!
