Inflight crew rest etiquette and disappointing service
I was travelling on an overnight flight from India to Hong Kong in Business Class and was seated in the second mini cabin by the window. As this flight departs late and is relatively short I reclined my seat straight away and fell asleep. A couple hours later in a darkened cabin I was awoken by some activity behind me - chatting, plastic blanket bags being opened etc. I was surprised to see that two cabin crew were getting ready to take their rest in two unoccupied seats on the last row of Business - something I had never seen on Cathay before. OK.... I fell back asleep. Another hour and a half later - awoken by the same thing. The two crew were now switching with another two crew and so the whole activity and disturbance was repeated.
The disturbance impacted on my rest an unlike a crying baby this was something completely avoidable. The fact that they don't even offer a tea coffee (or at least a juice/water) round before landing did not help me feel I had a very lacklustre crew on my flight. I don't think my expectations are unreasonably high for a 5.5hr night flight to consist of a single meal and a tea or coffee before landing at 7am. But the focus on this flight just seemed to be to ensure that the cabin crew threw the food out quickly then slept until the latest time possible.
I've always been a Cathay fan and had nothing about praise for their inflight service but I found this flight a big let down.
I'm not sure what Cathay's policy is regarding cabin crew resting in unoccupied J class seats but if they are going to do it can they at least do it quietly and discreetly!?
