I happen to know very well the person quoted, and although he flies a lot he's a data nerd, not a FT nerd. I'm sure they came in at a higher speed than usual for BUR or LAX, and I don't think he literally meant full speed. He had just got off an emergency landing, cut him some slack.
Oh it doesn't bother me that the passenger made that statement. More that it's included in the article. I get frustrated with a lot of reporting on aviation that seems to be nothing more than sensationalist remarks. A statement like that with the full speed landing should either be explained or left out of the article IMHO. That's the fault of the "journalist."
