In reality, BA is a business. It is in business to make profit. BAEC is a tool that generates revenue, simple as that.

BAEC is also a tool that creates loyalty amongst it's members, and for that loyalty BA gives B, Br, S, G and GGL perks. However, for most on here, that loyalty is to OW as much as it is to BA

For me, the "loyalty" to BA is based upon WTP & CW to and from DME, as it's better than the competition. But in reality, when it comes to US and Asia trips, my "loyalty" is to OW as I can get better deals. But this "loyalty" is one way. What BA gives back is perks
