While it is reasonable to expect passengers to shoulder part of the cost for security, part of that cost for security should come from the public at large, as part of the goal of airport security is the protection of the public.

My reply:

I guess in your opinion

I cannot fathom why the general public should bear any of this cost. Airport protection has nothing to do with the general public. As long as customs officials are there to handle entrants from foreign countries, I cannot see the risk to the general public. I suppose you might argue that planes slamming into buildings are a threat, but so too is...(well I don't want to give anyone ideas about how to hurt innocent people, but there are lots of them)

Heck I know dozens of people who have never flown. Why should they subsidize big businesses, the business traveler, and those private individuals whom chose to travel by plane?

I guess I understand your line of reason, I just do not happen to agree.
